Robert Kuklis

As a Professional Development Associate with The Leadership and Learning Center, Robert Kuklis is committed to support districts and schools to implement sustained systemic reform resulting in higher student achievement.  In addition to his work with The Center, Bob has been teaching a graduate course on curriculum at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut since 2001, a course designed to prepare teachers for educational leadership.

Before retiring as a public school administrator in 2001, Bob served as a secondary school teacher for eighteen years, the last nine as a social studies department chairperson, then as a high school building administrator for thirteen years, and finally as an assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction in Newtown, Connecticut for nearly seven years.  Dr. Kuklis received his Masters of Arts in Teaching from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1962 and his Doctor of Education degree from Teachers College, Columbia University in 1973.

While a principal in the 1980’s, Bob worked as a lead facilitator for the Principals Academy, Syracuse University/New York State Consortium for School Improvement, and in the 1990’s he served as principal of a high school being researched for the Coalition of Essential Schools, the research resulting in the book, Kids and School Reform (1997).  As assistant superintendent in Newtown, Bob provided the leadership for developing and implementing standards-based curricula throughout the district. Inspired by his work in education, Bob joined with two professional colleagues to write Transforming Schools:  Creating a Culture of Continuous Improvement (2004), which was the ASCD April, 2004 member book.

Bob Kuklis lives in New Rochelle, New York, where he continues to pursue his interests in education through consulting, teaching, planning, reading, writing, and conversing with professional colleagues and students.  Through his wife, Louise, and son, Tim, both social studies teachers at different high schools, Bob continues to be in touch with the day-to-day lives of practicing classroom educators.
